As Partner with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP (Morgan Lewis) in Chicago,
Michael Legamaro assists private wealth and corporate clients in achieving
solutions to a variety of planning and tax-related issues. Mr. Legamaro’s
strategies on behalf of entrepreneurial trusts and individuals focus on the
generation, preservation, and continuation of wealth. His breadth of corporate
experience includes domestic and foreign tax and business planning, estate
planning, and mergers and acquisitions. Michael Legamaro also has expertise in
negotiating consolidations and debt-restructuring deals.
Michael Legamaro’s responsibilities as an attorney include real estate
transactions involving a wide range of owners, portfolios, and developers. His
real estate clients include partnerships and investment trusts representing
billions of dollars in working capital. In serving the specific needs of
international clientele, Mr. Legamaro draws on a Morgan Lewis network of 1,300
lawyers and nearly 3,000 specialists operating in 22 countries worldwide.
Michael Legamaro earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and
Economics from Washington University in St. Louis, graduating summa cum laude.
He subsequently pursued law studies at the Northwestern University School of
Law, acting as Executive Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law &
Criminology. After receiving his J.D. in 1986, Mr. Legamaro spent three years as
a U.S. Army Captain with the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. His law experience
prior to joining Morgan Lewis involved taxation work with the international law
practices of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal (now SNR Denton) and Barack
Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP.
A member of the International Tax Specialist Group and the Transnational
Taxation Network’s Executive Committee, Michael Legamaro chairs the Chicago
branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He holds an AV
Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a top-tier ranking that
reflects his high levels of professional ethics and legal ability. Additionally,
he serves as Secretary with the Trust for African Rock Art, a charitable
organization dedicated to preserving rock face carvings and paintings throughout
Africa.
